Nancy is the capital of the French department of Meurthe-et-Moselle. It was the historic capital of the Dukes of Lorraine and now is one of the major economical cities of the Lorraine region.
Nancy’s two outstanding attractions (among many others) are first its influence by the movement Art Nouveau (l’Ecole de Nancy) and secondly, the majestic and quite breath-taking Place Stanislas, an outstanding 18th century square inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Nancy has its fair share of Irish pubs, wine bars, cafes, and other drinking spots. The night life is quite active, due to the presence of many students. Major nightlife spots are in the Ville vieille and near the place Stanislas.
